Seattle Christmas Market at Seattle Center

If you’ve ever walked through a European Christmas market and wished Seattle had one, it does. The Seattle Christmas Market turns the Seattle Center campus into a German-style holiday village, with wooden vendor stalls and local artisans in the shadow of the Space Needle.

You’ll find handcrafted ornaments, warm scarves, artisan soaps and gifts you didn’t know you were looking for. The food might be the real star: roasted nuts, bratwurst, strudel and hot mulled wine.

  • When: November 20, 2026 into late December. Closed Thanksgiving (November 26) and Christmas Day. Check seattlechristmasmarket.com for the final day and daily hours.
  • Where: Seattle Center’s South Fountain Lawn and Fisher Pavilion, 305 Harrison St
  • Tickets: 30-minute timed-entry tickets, priced by date: lowest in late November, highest on peak December days. Kids 6 and under are free. Buy at seattlechristmasmarket.com.
  • Our team’s pick: The Seattle Christmas Market is our team’s favorite holiday market. Make it a two-for-one evening: stay until dark for the lights, then walk over to Winterfest, which is free and on the same campus.
  • When to go: Late November or early December, before the peak weeks when it’s busiest and hardest to get in. Weekday afternoons are the least crowded.

Julefest at the National Nordic Museum

Julefest is Ballard’s Nordic Christmas market, modeled on the outdoor Christmas markets of the Nordic countries. Expect Scandinavian crafts and food, music, and family activities inside and around the museum.

  • When: November 20–22, 2026. Friday evening (5 to 9 p.m.) is a 21+ Night Market; Saturday and Sunday run 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Where: National Nordic Museum, 2655 NW Market St, Seattle
  • Tickets: Buy online at nordicmuseum.org/julefest to save. Kids under 12 and museum members get in free.

Pike Place Market’s holiday season

Pike Place Market is beautiful year-round, and in December it feels like a Seattle postcard. Flower vendors make holiday arrangements from Pacific Northwest greenery, craftspeople bring out holiday versions of their work, and garland and lights fill the arcades.

The best day to go is Magic in the Market, the Market’s annual holiday celebration, with Santa, cookie decorating and the Market lighting ceremony.

  • Magic in the Market: Saturday, November 28, 2026, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Holiday Night Market: Thursday, December 10, 2026, 5 to 9 p.m.
  • Where: Pike Place Market, 85 Pike St, Seattle

Urban Craft Uprising Winter Show

A big indie craft show full of local makers, selling everything from ceramics to jewelry to small-batch food. A good place to find gifts made in Seattle.

  • When: Saturday and Sunday, December 5–6, 2026, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (free admission), plus a ticketed 21+ preview night on Friday, December 4
  • Where: Seattle Center Exhibition Hall, 301 Mercer St, Seattle

Joyeux Bazaar at the Alliance Française

The Alliance Française de Seattle’s holiday market brings a French touch to the season, with local vendors and a European market atmosphere.

  • When: Saturday, December 5, 2026, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (free)
  • Where: Washington Hall, 153 14th Ave, Seattle

Ballard HolidayFest

Ballard’s neighborhood holiday celebration brings vendors, music and holiday activities to the neighborhood for an afternoon in early December.

  • When: The 2026 date is to be announced. Check visitballard.com in November.
  • Where: Ballard, Seattle

A day trip: Christmastown in Leavenworth

For a full Bavarian Christmas village, it’s worth the drive over Stevens Pass. Leavenworth’s Village of Lights turns the whole town into a holiday market, with lights on every building.

  • Christmastown: November 27 through December 24, 2026
  • Lights: On from Thanksgiving through February
  • Tip: Go on a weekday if you can, and check pass conditions before you drive.

Neighborhood markets and holiday bazaars

Some of the most charming holiday shopping happens at smaller neighborhood markets, church and school bazaars, and community center craft fairs. You get to talk to the person who made what you’re buying and support your community at the same time. Check your local community center, school, and neighborhood association calendars in November.

It's mid-November, you're driving through your Seattle neighborhood, and suddenly you notice that your neighbors are starting to put up their holiday lights. That familiar mix of excitement and dread settles in. Excitement because you love how magical your home looks all lit up for the holidays. Dread because... well, you remember last year's installation adventure. Maybe it was the three trips to Home Depot, the tangled mess of lights you swore you stored properly, or that moment when you realized you were one extension cord short and everything was already hung. Or perhaps it was standing on a ladder in Seattle's December drizzle, trying to untangle lights while your fingers went numb, wondering if this was really how you wanted to spend your weekend. If any of this sounds familiar, you're not alone. Seattle homeowners face a unique set of challenges when it comes to holiday light installation, and the decision between DIY and professional installation isn't as straightforward as it might seem.

Seattle is known for its environmentally conscious community, so it’s no surprise that eco-friendly LED lighting tops the list of holiday trends. LED lights use up to 80% less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs and have a longer lifespan, making them a sustainable choice that’s perfect for Seattleites looking to reduce their carbon footprint without compromising on brightness. Why It’s Popular in Seattle: Seattle's dedication to green energy and environmental responsibility has led many residents to seek energy-efficient options. With our long, dark winters, these lights are a perfect way to keep energy costs down while brightening the home. Incorporate This Trend: Consider layering LED string lights along your roofline or trees to create a soft, energy-efficient glow. Mixing warm and cool white LEDs can add depth and sophistication to your display. Pro Tip: Opt for programmable LED lights with color-changing options. They allow you to switch between festive colors for different occasions throughout the year, keeping your home vibrant and unique. Smart Holiday Lighting With the rise of smart home technology, holiday lights have become more interactive than ever. Smart lights connect with home automation systems, allowing you to control them with your smartphone or voice assistant. Some systems can even be set to music, syncing the lights with your favorite holiday tunes. Why It’s Popular in Seattle: Tech-savvy neighborhoods like Bellevue and South Lake Union are filled with residents who enjoy innovative solutions that simplify life. Smart holiday lights bring that same convenience to holiday decorating. Incorporate This Trend: Try adding smart light controllers that let you create preset lighting schedules, change colors remotely, and even adjust brightness to conserve energy. Pro Tip: Sync your smart lights with a playlist of holiday classics to create a festive light show. This trend works well for both homes and businesses looking to impress visitors and customers alike. Classic White Lights with Modern Twists The timeless look of classic white lights continues to reign supreme, especially in historic Seattle neighborhoods like Queen Anne and Madison Park. This year, homeowners are giving traditional white lights a contemporary twist by combining them with vintage-style bulbs, unique arrangements, or adding contrasting greenery and metallic accents. Why It’s Popular in Seattle: Many Seattleites appreciate the understated elegance of classic displays. When enhanced with modern design elements, classic white lights add charm without overwhelming the senses. Incorporate This Trend: Use classic white lights on window frames, around entryways, or wrapped around pillars to accentuate architectural details. Adding in larger, vintage-inspired bulbs can add depth and a modern edge. Pro Tip: Go for oversized, globe-shaped white bulbs for a modern take on the classic white light display. Combine them with greenery or festive wreaths to create a cozy, welcoming look. Interactive Light Displays for Businesses Businesses across Seattle are leveraging interactive light displays to attract and engage customers. In shopping districts like Pike Place Market and Pioneer Square, interactive displays captivate passersby, drawing them in for a closer look. Businesses are incorporating animated lighting or installing "selfie stations" illuminated with LED backdrops, creating a photo-friendly environment that encourages visitors to share on social media. Why It’s Popular in Seattle: Seattle is a social media-friendly city where local businesses thrive on community engagement. Interactive displays make for fun, memorable customer experiences that can boost foot traffic and brand visibility. Incorporate This Trend: For businesses, consider setting up an LED-lit archway or photo booth where visitors can take pictures. These displays work great with smart lighting that can change colors or create moving patterns. Pro Tip: Use social media hashtags on signs near the display to encourage visitors to tag your business. It's a creative way to expand your online presence and showcase your holiday spirit. Minimalist Scandinavian-Inspired Lighting Inspired by Scandinavian design principles, minimalist holiday lighting focuses on simplicity and functionality. This style uses fewer, carefully placed lights to create an elegant and serene atmosphere. Often using warm lights and natural materials like wood and greenery, this trend is especially popular in neighborhoods with modern architecture, such as Ballard and Fremont. Why It’s Popular in Seattle: The Pacific Northwest aesthetic leans toward minimalism and natural beauty. This trend complements Seattle’s unique mix of urban and natural landscapes, enhancing rather than overpowering the surroundings. Incorporate This Trend: Consider placing warm white LED lights on a single focal point, like a tree or shrub, and adding natural garlands. This subtle approach brings out the beauty of the landscape and provides a cozy glow. Pro Tip: Combine lights with organic materials like pine cones, branches, and wreaths for a minimalist look that feels both modern and inviting. Why Choose Seattle Holiday Lights?
